Who runs Clara, how we will be paid, and what we will never do. Read it before you invest anything.

Clara is a brand of Siddhartha Kochar, AMFI Registered Mutual Fund Distributor (ARN-362697).

Who we are

Clara is operated by Siddhartha Kochar, an AMFI Registered Mutual Fund Distributor (ARN-362697). We are not an investment adviser and are not registered with SEBI as one. You cannot currently invest through Clara. When that changes, this page will carry every rate we receive — published before the first transaction, not after.

How we are paid

Clara currently earns nothing from what you buy, because you cannot buy anything here. When investing opens we will offer Regular plans of index funds only, and the fund house will pay us a trail commission that is already inside the Regular plan's fee. The Direct plan of the same fund costs less and you will always be able to buy it straight from the fund house. We do not sell data, we do not sell leads, and no fund can pay to be shown.

Commission rates receivable, across competing schemes

AMFI requires a distributor to disclose not only what it earns on what it sells, but the rates receivable across competing schemes — so you can see whether we had a financial reason to prefer one fund over another.

Not yet published.

These rates will be published here before investing goes live on Clara.

The conflict, stated rather than denied

A distributor that publishes information about funds and is paid when you buy them has a conflict. Pretending otherwise would be the dishonest move, so here is how we handle it.

  • Index funds only. We will not sell active funds, so our analysis of active funds has nothing to sell you on.
  • Facts, not a ranking. Our list of index funds is sorted by size by default and shows every fund we know of, including ones we may never earn anything on. No fund is labelled “best”.
  • No paid placement. No fund house can pay for position, prominence, inclusion or a mention.
  • We describe, we do not instruct. Clara shows what the data says about funds. It does not tell you what to buy, does not build portfolios for you, and does not offer personalised recommendations — that is investment advice, which requires a SEBI Investment Adviser registration we do not hold.

Scheme documents

Before investing in any scheme, read its Scheme Information Document (SID), Statement of Additional Information (SAI) and Key Information Memorandum (KIM). These are published by the asset management company and are the authoritative description of the scheme — its objective, strategy, risks, costs and terms. Nothing on Clara replaces them.

Every AMC publishes these on its own website, and AMFI maintains the list of registered fund houses and their disclosures.

Risk

Mutual fund investments are subject to market risks. Read all scheme-related documents carefully. Past performance may or may not be sustained in the future, and nothing on Clara — including any fee comparison, statistic or historical figure — is a prediction of, or a promise about, future returns.

Our figures are calculations on public historical data, and every one names its source and date. Calculations can be wrong in ways their authors do not anticipate. Treat them as one input to your own judgement, not a substitute for it.
